Downloading, Installation and Configuration
Create a folder or sub directory named "IrfanView" on your hard drive in which IrfanView will reside. In most cases it will be under the folder or sub directory C:\Program Files. The main downloaded IrfanView ZIP file will be saved to this folder, the software will be expanded and will reside there permanently. The IrfanView software is in the compressed ZIP format and then made "Self Extracting" so no UNZIP (expand) software is required. Everything you need is included in the file you download.
File to be downloaded is "iview370.exe" and the size is 764kb. Hard disk used will be approximately 1.9 Mb with the downloaded file, 1.15 MB without.
Start the download by clicking here.

When this window appears select "Save this
program to disk", click on OK.

When the "Save As" window appears, click
on the small window at the top, "Save in" and point to the IrfanView folder
you created on your hard drive. You will see the "File name", iview370.exe,
for the IrfanView software package. Click "Save" and

this screen appears. Since the box in front
of "Close this dialog box when download completes" is checked, the window
closes. You are ready to install IrfanView.
Bring up "Explorer" by "Right" clicking on the "Start" button in the lower left hand corner of the screen and from the pop up menu point to "Explorer", then "Left" click the mouse. Locate the folder in which you saved the IrfanView downloaded file.

You have some choices to make:
| 1) | "Create IrfanView shortcut on desktop" - Leave the check mark in the box if you want an icon to start the IrfanView software from the original screen seen when you start your computer, referred to as the "Desktop" |
| 2) | "Create IrfanView shortcut in Start Menu Programs" - Leave the check mark in the box if you want IrfanView to show with your other software when you open Start>Menu>Programs. I suggest this item remained checked. It will allow easier access to other associated files such as "Uninstall" |
| 3) | You can change the folder (sub directory) you want IrfanView installed in. |
| 4) | When you are satisfied with your choices click "Next" |

This screen points out the improvements
over the last version, click "Next" to continue on.

This screen lets you pick which file formats
you want IrfanView to be associated with. Not knowing the full consequence
to other software on my computer, I took a conservative approach and didn't
select any. Changes to this list can be made later under "Options>Set file
associations" on the IrfanView "Menu Bar". Click "Next" to continue.

This is your last chance to go back and
make changes. When you're satisfied click "Next" to continue.

You have installed IrfanView, click "Done".
I have a personal dislike for any software
that gives me a blank screen when it loads. If you share that feeling this
section can help give it a little different look. Start /load IrfanView.

The black screen on the left is all that
shows. Hit the letter "T" on the keyboard and the "Thumbnail" window appears
on the right. Thumbnail is a term for a small image of the larger images.
The thumbnail window shows the hard drive directory and when you select
a folder / sub directory containing images thumbnails of those images will
automatically come up on the right. I like to see things without squinting
so I changed the thumbnail screen to suit me.

On the "Thumbnails" window Menu Bar click
on "Options", then on "Set thumbnail options".

Mark the circle in front of the 150 X 150
pixels, then click on "OK". This will give a larger thumbnail image.

Move the mouse cursor (arrow) very slowly
over the left edge of the thumbnails window. You will see change from and
single arrow head to a smaller double arrow head. When you have the double
arrow head push down and hold the left mouse button while moving the the
double arrow head to the left. Continue until you like the size of the
window and the number of thumbnail images showing. When you're satisfied
release the mouse button.

When you are satisfied with the looks of the Thumbnail window go up to the Menu Bar, click "Options" and then click "Save current size/position"
So why is this better? When you start IrfanView
and the black screen comes up just hit "T" on the keyboard and you will
have the Thumbnail window pop up configured the way you want it. Use the
Thumbnail window to find your images and as soon as you click on that folder,
thumbnail images of everything in that folder appear. If you want to work
on one of the images just find the thumbnail and double click on it. It
will come up on the black screen for editing. No need to remember those
strange filenames. If you have saved an image after working on it, it
may not appear as a Thumbnail. IrfanView must be refreshed to include the
new image. Hit "F5" or from the menu bar at the top click on "View"
and then "Refresh". Want to know what size the big image is, place the
mouse cursor on the thumbnail image and it will tell you size in pixels
as well as file size in Bytes. So since 1 kb is 1,000 bytes, a file that
is 37,564 bytes is 37.6k
