Rat, the jugging device I'm thinking of will need to be made of tough molded plastic. Basically, it's just a device to store line, so that you can let out whatever amount you want, and then secure the line. Wrapping the extra line around the noodle or 2-liter jug, holding it in place with a big rubber band, and putting several half-hitches to keep it from unwrapping would also work--just not as neatly. dipchip, I was not in any way downgrading the product or your choice to use em, fact is I like it and wish I had come up with it. If i could buy em worth the money I would, but can make mine for about $2.50 per jug(50cents each for hook, tape, line, noodle- weight is free) and can make about 4 an hour. They are not cheap nor easy to make. I love the idea of the thing flipping over when bit. jk Fishing: a jerk on one end waitin' for a jerk on the other end.

ok...no good for being stationary in a current. I didn't see how they could be, but I thought I would ask. I have already cut the PVC to have 45 of these. I have made a couple things different however. I got 14 gauge wire and drilled a hole in each side of the jug about 2" up into the jug on each side that is very slightly bigger than the diameter of the wire. I then bend this wire into a shape that I can only describe as an omega shape. Then I placed it into the jug, and bend the wires down and cut them off using a dremel. (Yet another reason to use my Dremel). Doing this eliminated my need to put a bolt through the jug, and made the length VERY easy to set. Anyway - I wrapped 12' of 108lb braided line and wrap it around the wire coming out of the end of the jug. I can then do like was mentioned above, and I half hitch it to the depth I want to fish. Easy as pie. Now....if I want to fish deep holes, I have also made 2.5lb lead weights that use the same kind of wire. I then wrap 40' of line to the weight. All I do is atatch the weight to the jug, and viola...I have 52' of line, and a stationary jug. Most of my fishing will be floating, and not stationary, and I used to use 2 liter soda bottles, but for floating in current, I don't see why these things wouldn't be ok on a river. Stationary though is pretty well out. |

Dip Chip I got some of those "jugs by bert" today! I really like them! I also but some more swivel's that were stronger than the ones they provided & bought some hooks to replace the ones they provided! Hopefully i'll get to put them on the water soon! Justin,, I know that you are going to like them. You can get one or two a month or whenever you can and soon you will have plenty to set out. 5 will store real easy in a 3gallon bucket that I get from the Albertsons bakery. It comes to them with cake frosting in it and they throw them away when empty. When setting them out be sure to leave plenty of slack about5feet so that the waves dont pick it up and float it. Like I said in my earlier post I replaced the weight with a 11/2 pound weight and havent lost one yet. Right now is a good timr to set them out if you can get decent weather to do it. Most of my experience has been with blues and they are in 50feet of water right now around here. But they are stacked up and will bite if you take it to them. goodfishin to you and dont hesitate to ask if you have a question. dipchip |

I dont use weights on my jugs. That way the wind carries them slowly, kinda like drift fishing. I'll check them every couple of hours and go pick up the ones that are too far away. |

Had a buddy tell me about this sounds great ever threw a cussing fit while putting out tangled juglines. Try weedeater cord instead of trotline string. Works great less headache. dont tangle and hooks dont get hungup in it either. |

How would you rig a jug line with a live bream for flatheads? Keep fishing!

Jim, I plan on trying to catch some big flatheads this summer and Im going to try something different with these jugs. Im going to take a sturdy 1 gallon jug and tie 2 feet of heavy twisted trotline with a large strong hook. then im going to tie about 30 feet of cheap fishing line to the jug and tie a brick on the other end. This should keep the jug from floating off on its on. Im going to bait these jugs with medium size bream or crappie, may try large goldfish also. I plan on setting them out at night in shallow water then picking them up the next morning. If I catch a monster I should be able to track the jug down since I fish in a bay off the main res. |

Thanks alot for the info Ron! I can fit 6 jugs into a five gallon bucket! I talked to Talon & were gonna both drive half way & meet at Texoma, he's gonna help me try 'em out! Plus he has some jugs he made that I want to see! I got a topographic map of texoma & a hot spots map! Has anyone ever jugged Texoma before or have any tips! I found one area that I like thats gotta 37' flat right next to the river bed! on the other side of the flat is Hog & Wood Island! The islands quickly drop of to 17' & then again to 37'! then theres the 37' flat right before the river bed! Yes Uncle Remis......I Know The Catfish Are HUGE!!!

Ronnie, I think I will try that in a cove on Lake Texoma. I only have a trolling motor right now, so I can't get out in the big water. This particular cove is deep with lots of current running in it, so I might have some luck. Keep fishing! CHUCKWAGON "Always do the right thing"

Justin, I havent jug fished texoma but would expect the big blues to be in the channel or suspended over the channel. Look for large schools of shad on the locator. One tip,, if the blues are suspended over the channel say 15feet off bottom, then extend your weight line 15feet so that the hooks are at the same level as the fish as marked by locator. If you fish underneath them you wont get a bite but by fishing right in the middle of them great things can happen. drift fishing in cold water is not very productive cause the fish wont chase the bait aggressivly but still fishing among the fish will work. Anchor over them to rod and reel fish and be careful. Ive been on texoma many times and the big waves and a small boat dont mix very well. If you decide to drift fish with small shad you will get bit by stripers and they are fun too. regards dipchip |

Chuckwagon, when jugging for flatheads, I always anchor my jugs, and I rig the droppers with swivels, just like I do on a trotline, because I'm going to be baiting with live bream, and the swivels help prevent tangles. I anchor the jugs because in almost 20 years of jugfishing, I've never caught a flathead over 3# on a jug that was floating free with the current.
