Hey Everyone,

Just started fishing a few weeks ago. I'm 22 years old and as uneducated as they come when it comes to catfish or fishing period :D I'm looking for tips from more experienced fishermen. I usually do my catfishing on the banks of the Potomac River in the Maryland/West Virginia areas. I've been catching cats in the daytime on just plain old nightcrawlers bought from my local country store, the cats seem to love em in the day. At night I am using chicken liver/chicken liver in panty hose. I guess what I'm wanting is tried and true baits for rod and reel catfishing in the river. I've searched through the net and see that chicken breasts marinated in either strawberry kool-aid or jell-o seem to work great and will be trying that, hopefully adding it to my list of regular baits. Any and all tips are highly looked up upon, Thanks :-)

Your already working with 2 of the very best.

Only thing I'd look at adding would be depending on local regulations is cut bait.

Your for sure on the right track, just start stacking up that experience.

Well good to know those are some of the best. They do catch very well, go figure lol. I have cut some suckers and "fall fish" (or so the local fishermen call them) up into teardrop shaped strips with odd results. I have caught cats on these cut baits.. But more than not I end up hooking a hungry turtle or a muskie which bites straight through my line. I guess I could use some kind of steel leader and try to land the muskies, I would love too... But not sure how to rig up that leader proper for fighting those teethed monsters to the bank.. Guess ill google some on figuring out some cat rig that is muskie safe. As for the turtles... well all part of the fun I guess :-)
