Hey guys no questions really just conversation, so what kind of bait works best for catfishin for u, whats your fav setup, and when bankfishing what do u look for? I fish usually with a slip weight, a 4/0, 5/0 or 7/0 hook, and corn is my fav to use theres alot of it, its cheap and fish love it. Catfishing; There is nothing else like it.

My bottom fishing setup is the same as yours.I use a slip float at least 75 % of the time for both channels and flat heads. For catfish bait I use a lot of different things, cut shad, live shad, grasshoppers, toads, blue gills live and cut. In running water is look for current seams, back currents, drop offs. in lakes it is drop offs, and points and flats where the bait fish are. Dale Finney, Wamego Ks.

Not a lot of really big cats where I'm at so I tend to use a smaller hook. #4's, 2's, 1's and up to 1/0. Mostly I use a walking type (lindy rig) sinker that I've flattened on an anvil. 1/2 - 3/4 oz mostly, although I have gone up to 1.5 oz fishing fast water right below a dam, or if I'm fishing main current from a boat. Like Dale I look for seams, back eddys, etc. Bankfishing I have 2 kinds of spots. Type A is based around some kind of river structure, riprap pile, bridge piling, or obstruction that makes a spot of deep quiet water behind it. Normally it takes a lot more walking to get to it, and in some respects its more like hunting. Hit the spot, take 1 good fish, maybe a couple of small ones and move on. There is nothing comfortable about it, often there is no good place to sit, no shade, and several blocks of walking carrying gear to get there. Type B is nothing special to talk about structure wise. However I can drive the car close to the spot. Normally it will have shade, mowed grass, in short a comfortable place to spend an afternoon fishing. My favorite spot like this is a tent camping area in a city park. It even has bathrooms close by! Tend not to specialize on big cats in spots like that. Just throw a couple of lines out with nightcrawlers and see whats hungry. |
