Hello, Forum Noob here. Catfish, Mainly Blue and channel cats. My question is, I'm having a hard time catching these guys at night (after 11pm). I love to night fish, but I don’t get so much as a nibble. I can catch them pretty much all day, although the bigger ones are more active from 8AM - 12PM and then 6PM - 10PM, in around 15-25 ft deep water. But after around 11pm, I get nothing at all… I've tried fishing shallow, but It's hard to fish anywhere under 10 ft of water because of the hydrilla that grows everywhere in this lake (it’s a very healthy and full lake). So I tried fishing the edge of the hydrilla, and nothing at all what so ever. Any ideas? I can't imagine it being the bait, due to the amount of fish I can catch during the day. The temp of the surface at the moment is around 85 degree's, and only fluctuates 1 - 2 degree's at the most now. I also have a feeling that the lake turned over, which hasn’t effected the day fishing yet. I work 2nd shift, and would love to catch some after work, but I'm not having any luck what so ever. Any ideas? I'll go ahead and introduce myself. I've been fishing all my life, and just recently acquired a passion for catfish fishing. It started this summer, when the bass went into deep water, and were getting much harder to catch. So my dad and I started testing a new catfish dough bait we sell here locally and on the net.. It worked great right out of the start. They absolutely love the stuff. Anyway, he went back to bass fishing, and I kept fishing for the cats, catching Blue / Channel Cats 5 - 8 lbs all day long. (Biggest so far, a 15 lb blue cat, and a few 9 lb Channels). (Kudos to Cheez on that 31 lb Blue) I guess the passion came after I fried some up (wow). We moved to Lake Fork Texas after living on Lake Lewisville (Texas) for many years, and lake Lewisville is nothing but mud and pollution, so I was never fond of catfish due to the bad muddy taste that the lake Lewisville fish had. But that's nothing like Lake Fork, where the catfish are much cleaner, and taste amazing! |

I usually catch them only at night. I fish as shallow as I can. I will cast a foot away from the bank or around structure. What are you using for bait? Cut bait and blood bait works the best for me. If that doesn't work I like to drift with blood. |
