I am in the market for a new boat. I am semi-retired and am looking for a boat that will last me for the next 20 years or so. The following are a list of questions and I would appreciate all of your feed back. I was hoping to be able to buy this dream boat for 15 to 20 thousand and for it to be nice enough that my wife might want to ride in it. 1. What type of boat: Pontoon, deckboat, jon, bayboat etc. Size of the boat. 2. Brand names that people have been happy with and support they have received. Both for the boat and for the motor. I know their is a marine section but I am interested in hearing from everyone. 3. Layout of the boat Center console or side. Large amount of deck or more work area. 4. Live wells, size and aeration used. bait wells for shad, size and filters used to keep bait alive. 5. Should you plan to fish off the side of the boat or from the stern. Types of rod holders recommended and where positioned on the boat. 6. Would you recommend purple as a color. We bleed purple on Saturday in our house. 7. If you have other suggestions feel free to share. |

Richard, Welcome to the BOC. These are some good questions that can only be answered by the way you use your boat and where at. You have to pull it or plant it at some lake or river. Do you have the vehical to pull a pontoon or big boat? Is your river always deep or are there times when the sand is showing? Do you have a boat now and have experience fishing from one? How many folks are going to be on the boat? What are you mostly going to be fishing for? I had a old Ozark boat 16 ft long with a 40 hp out board, had it for 12 years and bought a new crestliner 18.5 boat with a 115 hp and a 9 hp kicker. When I spend an hour cleaning it up after every trip, I wish I had my old boat back.
