Most books claim blue catfish aren't in the Illinois River. I've never caught one before, and I had been trying for years. I was told this wasn't true, but I would love to have someone shed light on this issue. | ||

Welcome to the BOC Jake, I've never fished the Illnois River. Some who do talk a lot about big head carp. I don't hear them talk much about catching blue catfish.

Yeah, I've snagged big head carp on the Illinois and the Mississipi Rivers. It just seems really weird that you don't hear of blue catfish north of the Cairo lock and damn on the Mississipi River. | ||

I have fished for catfish in the Illinois river for over 28 years and fish 7 catsish tournaments every year in the Peoria pool to Starved Rock and caught only a couple. The more south you go towards St Louis there are more before entering the Mississippi River were there are many. Seems like the northern states are a bit to cold for Blues to hang year round. | ||

I know that at a Tourney last year there was some 30's caught at the Meredosia Dam on the Ill. The lock at Alton on the Miss. has a great population of blues. In that lower pool is where the world record came from. I have seen blues caught at Quincy upper pool on the Miss. Powerton Lake up by Peoria is a perched reservoir and has a good blue fishery. | ||
