Heres another good one my long departed uncle taught me when i was a kid. Make sure your wife or better half knows you are using the blender or get ya a cheap one. Ingredients: 2 shad or 1 large one, if no shad then bluegill one container of chicken liver 1 can of moist cat food... fish flavored 1 can of tuna packed in water Throw all this mess in the blender and blend til its as soupy as it can get. Pour in a big bowl or bucket... Add Quaker oats til it becomes thick and consistant enough to put on a hook. Remember it gets harder the longer the oats soak up the yummy catty goodness, so add a little then wait and add more to get the thickness you want so it stays on your hook. Also it can be rolled into small balls and used to chum an area because as it disolves the oats disapate and spread out in the slightest current. If no current throw some in an onion sack tied to a line and yank it periodically to release the stench. Goodluck with this, I have used this on the bank, boat and trot lines with excellent success. I live in WV and mainly fish for flattys but occasionally I will break out the recipe and nail some channels for fun. Oh and carp seem to like it if your into this but usually carp wont hang with catfish much. Good luck. Line rippin woohoo!

My favorite is Trout Chow & Cream style Corn. I use 2 pounds of Trout Chow mixed with one 14-15 ounce can of Creamed Corn. Mix it thouroughly in a bucket. I put whole kernel corn or a "Sugar Pop", on the hook and pack the chow mix around it. It can be hard to keep on the hook while casting. If so, add a little water to make it pack better. I find a long slow "Lob" cast works best for me. Most of the cats I catch are in the 3-5 pound range, with an occasional 8-11 pounder that keep it interesting. You might catch a carp or two also. I thought I had a monster cat one fine afternoon, but it turned out to be a 25+ pound carp. But what the heck, it was fun too. A couple of weeks ago my brother in law caught a 35 pound carp with this bait, Nick |

I have read a lot of home made bait recipes and some of them do sound yummy.... or I could just be strange... yea, THINK THAT IS IT, I AM A STRANGE ONE... I just need to make sure the next time I make meat balls, that I do not mix it up with a catfish recipe Life's a garden.... dig it

I work in a feed mill that makes trout feed. We have dried herring, squid, salmon, trout, menhadden, and poulty feather bood blend. After we coat the pellets with fishoil we end up with oil balls or you could call them clods.I have been thinking about trying some of this stuff to make bait. The oil clods could be wrapped in net and put on a hook. The rest would have to be mixed with something to work. The Dried squid is the stinkinest stuff you will ever get around. ROn |

Ron, Welcome to the BOC. Glad you're here. That stuff sounds like it would work on any fish, not just trout. Keep us posted. Our GOD is an AWESOME GOD!!

I have a new one that shows some promis. 1 can sardens in oil 1 lb. hamburger 1/2 tub chicken livers Run it all thru a old hand crank meat grinder. Then you have to inject it into dip tubes. Works suprisingly well in calm water but I haven't tryed to thickin it up yet. I'm open to any ideas on on a good way to do this. (Message edited by witt on February 11, 2010) |

Witt, Welcome to the BOC. That sounds good. Use some cattails or a little flour to thicken it up. Let us know how it works. Our GOD is an AWESOME GOD!!
