I would use a small hook and a couple of split shots for bullhead. |

There are a few good rigs for bullheads. You can either do the normal bobber/hook rig, placing the bobber above the hook, a weight below the bobber, and then the hook below the weight. You can also do a carolina rig sort of setup: slip sinker - bead - swivel - leader - hook. For anything else you would probably be better off going to the library. For baits, you can use lots of things. Stinkbaits, cheese, livers, worms, cut bait, and occassionally you can catch the larger ones on minnows. Catch-Photo-Release on all cats over 10 pounds. Guerilla warfare is my thing.

For bullheads, if fishing for fun, I would use relatively light tackle. I mean lets face it, the largest one probably wouldnt break your line even with 8 lb test and using light tackle would allow you to get the optimum feel of the fish as you are pulling it in. I am basing this on the fact that you said there is nothing around where you live except bullheads. If there are channel, blues or flatheads, then you might be likely to catch a larger fish, therefore you would want to use heavier tackle. SA Ah man, I forget to check the drag....

I agree with Shane. Use some lighter tackle since bullheads don't usually get too big. Are you sure there is nothing else in the area? HO HUM JUST ANOTHER SH*%#Y DAY IN PARADISE

yah. i live on long island so as for catfish theirs only bullheads but they share the pond with some nice sized bass, pickeral, bluegill, bream, crappie, and rainbow and brook trout. as for light tackle i have a 6ft ugly stick with a shimano cardiff 200A baitcaster spooled with 10lb spiderwire. do you think that is a good setup? Steven , if thats the case I would set your self up with a spinning rod and 8 lb test line .... that would handle most of the fish there without any problem .... there are couple of posts in the library i believe on how to set this rig up ... to catch bullheads your best bet is to use a slip bobber rig with a #6 hook ... weight the line at the bottom and snell the hook about a foot up from the bottom ... you can use minnows , creek chubs, a piece of hot dog , worms , nitecrawlers , shiners or just about anything .... Bullheads will eat anything you throw at them ... it dont have to stinky either ... if they see it or smell it your sure to get a strike ... good luck mike |
