Travis, like the others have said, you can catch them at all times of day. I like to fish right after daylight on rivers, and creeks. They bite good right after sun up until the temps start to rise. But that is just my favorite time. I also like right before dark, and around midnight. Like Dusty said, shad is what I catch the most on. But, I also like chicken livers, and minnows, and goldfish. I have caught several on worms as well. If you aint covered in slime, you aint fishin hard enough!

Yah, like Josh said, welcome to the Brotherhood! When I caught my fourty three pound blue it was night time around 9:30 or so, but the next morning my brother pulled out an eighteen pound blue at about 9 in the morning and the sun was up. I don't think that they only hit at night. Good Luck Fishin!! Ryjoe Radez

I went fishing at 3:00 in the afternoon yesterday, and caught a good number of Blues. Biggest was about 7lbs, smallest was just a little bitty one. About the size of the shad that it bit on! Attempt to make every major decision as though you were twenty years in the future looking back. It helps prevent having to say "I wish I Had!"

Welcome! Unfortunantly fishing has been pretty slow here lately. It's killing me! I've been hitting up some good spots but the bite is just so slow. Don't know if it's the weather or what. |

Travis, you'll find the prime time for blues(or any cat) is from about an hour before sunrise to an hour or so after. They kinda go on a frenzy. Secondary is from about 10pm-2am. You'll also find from about 9am to 1pm during the day to be a prime time for cats to feed. They will feed 24 hours a day if the opportunity presents itself close at hand as any type of wildlife will do. But you'll find these times to be the most productive usualy. Hunt Safe and Have Fun! Our favorite time for blues is right before dark. We pretty much always catch one right then on cut herring. It doesn't matter where we fish, it seems like the blues are everywhere. |

hello all, I fished this past Saturday night in an all night tournament. At the weigh in there was and 81 Lb blue, 67LB blue, 48LB blue, and several over 20LBS. All i could catch was smaller fish. I am fairly new at blue catfishing. Last year was my first year and my two biggest were 17LBS and 28LBS. What area on the river are these guys catching these monster blues. This is the Missouri River i am fishing. |

Craig, I dont know anything about the area you're fishing but I bet that the winners scout out those big fish for a long time before they catch them. I bet they been radaring them and know right where they were hiding before the tounament, then they just stick a line down in front of them. They might have even been caught before.

I grew up catfishing in the South where we fished at night because of the turtles. I now fish in Truman Lake in Missouri in the day time for Blues. I make noodles by cutting the kisd swimming noodles in thirds and putting a drop line on them. I usually bait with cut up chicken legs but also use perch or cut bait. Just find the cats with your depth finder and drift the noodles over them. Take along your grandson, he will love it too. |
