How many of you guys have ever used salt pork for bait? I use it all the time it stays on the hook very well, better than any thing else I've tried. The draw back is that it dosen't seem to catch really big fish like over 5 or 6lbs. |

Don't know why it shouldn't work. I've caught cats on bacon and chitlings. I did flavor the chitlings with garlic powder, though.

Actually, I'm catching Brown and Yellow Bullheads, Walking catfish, White cats and Channels. Like I said though the biggest is around 5 or 6lbs. |

I use cracklins for chum. I am fairly sure I could bait up with them and catch fish. Dave Haugh "You can catch a big fish if you have good bait"

And the list grows. There would probably be a smaller list of what a cat wont eat. Bout only thing I can think of is that darn "cured garlic liver", lol! I know it works for some of you!

IMO, there's no such thing as a 'magic bait' that will always get hits. I've seen times that cured livers wouldn't draw a single bite; but then, I've seen the same thing happen with shad and skipjack. I haven't tried every bait there is, but I've tried quite a few, and while I've had better luck with some than others, at one time or another, I've drawn a blank with every single one of those baits.

i said it before and i'll say it again...... there is no better place then the b.o.c. for great catfishing information.. salt pork...if you really think about it. why not. everything over 6lbs. i throw back anyway... so if it catches catfish.. you can bet i'll be using it when the weather breaks..... i think i'll buy some now and cure it in garlic til april. |

Rob, thanks for the link and the pics. I sure didn't realize how much of a nuisance they are, especially since you mentioned how tasty they are. Did I read correctly that it's Federal offense to actually have any in your possession? I'm assuming they mean live ones, because of the nuisance factor, or am I mistaken.

Kimber, yes you are right it's only against the law if the fish are alive so put'em on ice. Most people don't know how good they are to eat so when they catch them they just thow'em back. Plus some people have never seen one so when they catch them they don't know what the heck is wrong with that cat. Most of these fish have white spots on them so they look funny, They bark really loud too! Some are even albino I've only ever seen 1. |
