Anyone seeing them in rut yet? Seen 5 doe & 3 bucks within an hour 9-10am today. 2 bucks (small & big 8 pts) was chasing all doe but none of them doe show any interest yet. While I was watching them, small 6 pts under my stand. Intersting morning. Still waiting on the big boy.

Today was opening day here, saw 13 does and a spike. I thought for sure a good buck would show up with that many does walking past my stand. Never happened, will try again in the morning. Here is a pic of the buck my neighbor killed this morning. Its huge for this part of the state, 8 point with a 19 1/2 inch spread. Might be average most other places with lots of crops for them to eat, but most around here have small basket racks.

yea the bucks are interested, but the doe just arent yet. Saw 2 bucks in the field yesterday around noon, chasin a doe around, the smaller buck would get to close and the bigger one would run him off. Gun season was only a day away so i guess they wanted to show off a bit to taunt me then disappear. Ive seen more bigger bucks at mid day than i do am/Pm. SO i dont bother getting up before daylight anymore. besides this ole arthritis doesnt like it much.

This mornin I had 10 does,2 button bucks and a decent 8 pointer that didn't give me a shot. Thursday I got to see one of the two gooduns I been seein on the farm all year. With just me and my brother huntin that part of the farm one of should run into them sooner or later, even if it comes down to sittin in the stand all day. Both of them will easily score over 130s. One looks to be pushin the 150s.
We've had the best bean crop I've ever seen this year. With all the beans in the field they're not so easy to spot. We finally got the gate up on that part of the farm so I won't have to run around chasin people off. Which was puttin a damper on my deer huntin before. Every year a few of the boys up north of us would try to sneak down by walkin across a slough that separates us. We stuck one of them twice last year for criminal tresspassing. He didn't like it to much when I had him on tape crossin the slough the second time. Not to mention the second offense is over 600 dollars. Last years huntin season cost him right at 1000 dollars.

Nice deer Jon. Your right they all do eat the same. If I every get a trophy that will be great but I'm happy with just about any deer I kill.

John thats a great deer either way.
Went out today and saw 16 all day. Saw four bucks, a small 4 pointer, a small 8 pointer, a small 6 pointer and the last buck the same decent 8 pointer that I saw yesterday. I got to squeeze a shot off at him just to miss him. He was bout 250 yards standin in the beans and all I could see was his head. So I put the crosshairs on his head and pulled the trigger. He just stood there. Shook his head and still stood there. I didnt want to take another shot on him since I missed the first one. Thats a pretty good distance off handed for me anyways. All the rest was does and buttons. Maybe tomorrow.......
On a lighter note, my little nephew got to bag his second deer he's ever killed yesterday. A two hundred yard shot that busted her backbone. Being only nine years old, it put a grin on my face No one can wipe off. When she came out I had to settle him down just to get him to take a good shot. He was so excited. Then to see her fall was just about the icing on the cake.
And you know he wouldn't let me live it down missin that buck. He told me I had to learn how to shoot, cause you see unke danny mine is on the fourwheeler. He even told me that he'd shoot the buck for me. I better watch out hes gonna be out gunnin me for long. Today was a great day.

Finally they're HOT now. Saw 11 altogether at 3 different time today from 3 til dark. Small doe was all nervous & appoached me then turned, then bigger doe came along. No later than half hour 4 big doe came running down the ridge toward me followed by small 6 (about the same as Jon's buck) I passed them up. Each were at the broadside- about 15 yards from me on the ground. Cool sight to see especially at close encounter. Quickly took 3 pics of those chase, it turns out they're all blurry! No wonder I was shaking lol. Then they ran back passing me again, think something spooked them, then saw another 3, a doe & couldnt tell whats the other 2. Heard a shot went off right before dark. Heading back out again tmrw.
