Guys, I just wanted to share this story with you. It was in the local paper here in Missouri. The story went that a 48 year old farmer called the Franklin County Sheriffs Department because he heard shooting, after dark, near one of his fields where he had lost 3 cows in the past month. The Sheriffs Department sent a conservation to the area who called in saying nothing was found. 1 or 2 hours later another call was made to the Sheriffs office that the farmer had shot at and hit 3 individuals in a van poaching. When the police arrived the farmer stated he again heard the shooting in his field and went down to check it out and seen a van driving toward him with their lights out. He claimed he got out of his truck to stop the van but the van attempted to run him over and as the van drove by, the farmer unloaded 8 or 9 shots at the van. The farmer hit two of the three men in the van and they were taken to the hospital. They later admitted to shooting a deer in his field. They were charged with poaching. The farmer was arrested and held on $100,000.00 bond for assault with a deadly weapon.. The poachers are all out waiting court. The farmer is still in jail.. Just another point, last year, I had two men in a truck parked at the end of my property line spotlighting the edge of my field. The Sheriffs Department was called and I was told they would send a Conservation agent out but it was not against the law to shoot a weapon after dark! I asked the deputy what he thought they were doing over there and he said.."Who knows!"..unbelievable!!

Spotted Ghost again today 15 mins after I seated in my stand. He was bedded on top of the ridge in thicket directly in front of me (est: 200 yds) He bed back down after doing some stretching & shaking his wet coat from all day shower. I was out of patience, the rain started to pour in harder with breeze wind. My mind struggled whether stalking the bed buck would be a good decision or not. Figured that stalking in this weather condition would be one of advantage sometimes. There I got to second thicket patch. Found him & I stayed put. Arm got tired while holding it for an hour or so I put it down lean it against my knee. Part of me do regret that I had full attention on him an entire time instead of look at the surroundings too. Lesson learned after when BIG 12 pointers somehow sneaked in to my left coming from where I came from! He paused at 10 yds! Like I can spit at him that far! I quickly pick up the arrow nocked bow when he wasn't looking, by the time I moved the bow to draw he shifted his head & swing left/right tryin to make out what I am. Turned & walked off. I'd score him around 160-165" Another hard decision is NC's limit of buck is 2 which I already bagged 1. Which would you take next, him or Ghost. What now & whats next, lol. Get the ghost-its in your head now and you'll be distracted till you do As far as it being a true albino-which is lack of melinin(sp?)I'm not sure its "bad"genetics-just different, missing some type of chromosone. No physical harm is done .They usually don't last long, they stick out, natures way of taking care of it. |

Qriz... My latest G.O.N. magazine had this photo of a kid that shot this white buck a couple of weeks ago here in Georgia. They dont say its albino..just white. Im not sure if youll be able to read the caption under the pic so Ill go ahead and re-type it for ya.. it says... "Graham Stevenson of Dublin with the buck of a lifetime- and it was his first deer ! The 9 year old shot this almost solid white 8-pointer on opening morning in Laurens County. The only brown hair is along the buck's back feet". Thats about all it said but I thought you might like seeing what old ghost might look like upclose and on the ground...lol Good luck... Sam

qriz, if what DH is saying is fact, then I would take out the white one regardless, DH im not disputing what your saying, Ive always wondered if it wasnt some sort of bad genetics. 12 pointer is mighty tempting though haha. What size is the rack on the ghost? Ive hunted my whole life and never saw a white one or a pie-bald just pictures. Just my 2 cents |

Sam, that sure looks like an albino. No pigmentation around the hoof or nose area at all. Most of the time that is a tell tale. That sure is one beautiful buck though. Thanks for sharin. Thats definitly somethin you don't see everyday. A coon huntin buddy of mine hunted an albino coon for the last three years and finally got him last year. A biologist looked him over and said that bout the pigmentation. It was a true albino. He got the coon mounted, got it home and his youngin broke the tail off of it that evenin. The taxidermist fixed it the next day. |

Sam, it must be really special for that kid harvested that rare buck. I find that rack a bit unusual because I thought they usually have dark brown/reddish antler (for albino) I've been seeing Ghost 2 more time. Both of those time he was bedded which I can see from my stand when he got up to stretch then bed back down again just before dark. Decided not to stalk him in dry weather condition with all those dried leaves anyway. Jim, from what I can tell he either has 4 or 6 pts. More like basket rack. Tim, sure enough he had me all pumped & drove me nuts. I gotta figure a way to outsmart him. I've tried everything to coax him- with doe bleat, other time combination with small buck tending grunts. Have seen a couple of bucks responded to my call except the Ghost in bed & laughing. Went out today only 3 hours in the rain-rained all day nonstop. No call was used, see nothing but treerats. I'm concern that tomorrow is opener smokepole. Instead, will have the bow in hand. Also my first digital camera Sony P41 came in yesterday & took it with me today hoping to snap a photo of him to show you all-no luck. Hopefully next time will do. No it wasn't me but I do recall that I mentioned about taking a pic of bluegills in an aquarium showing varies position where they would be facing up/downward & etc while they're hooked behind the fin, thru the lips, eyes, & etc. Is that what your referring to? I dont build no traps for anything-just hooks & broadheads lol. Scouting leads to understanding, understanding to confidence, confidence to patience, and patience to success.
