This was taken just North of me here by one of the night cameras some use at their blinds to see what is coming around. It's not a real clear picture, but I think you can make it out, LOL!

Skip, Great picture bro. Is it a cougar? Are they protected in that area? Would you be able to shoot it if ya had to?? Makes me wonder how you would feel dragging a deer out of that area. LOL Reckon the cougar would go after the gutpile ya left behind or after the deer you could possibly be dragging out?? They sure look pretty on camera even if the picture is blurry, but I bet they look awful nasty if you see one up close LOL. Gonna have a deerhunters chat again here real soon hope you can attend.

I think its neat to watch big cats stalk game on the wildlife channels. That picture is almost hard to believe. Deer are very skiddish animals by nature; It seems like a cougar would have a hard time getting that close to that buck without it knowing it was there.

Thats funny Kutter, that same picture went around Pa, a year or so ago that was taken in Pa. to prove there is Mountian Lions in that State. I guess its the same as all the Huge flatheads on the bottom of the River that the diver came up and said he would never go down there again while working on a Dam or Bridge..lmao

I saw it in an email claiming Oklahoma...lol Someone else on line said that they personally saw this same set up in a museum and that it was actually not real but stuffed and posed animals for a display....lol It does seem unlikely that the cat could get so close to that deer, be perfectly lined up with the camera and be so clear for a moving animal on a deer cam. Who knows..looks like a lot have claimed this one...lol Take care... Sam

I havent got a pic of one yet, but I know there are cougars/Mountainlions here where i live in NWArkansas. Game folks say there isnt any, but I see the tracks and the neighbor has seen one, Dad saw one years ago here also. So why dont the game folks want you to know there is a huge putty tat runnin around? Would be good to know info specially for those of us that has live stock. |

Looks like some people are using this photo for an "I Got Ya" and yes they got me. However we do have some cougars around here and I have seen the tracks around my deer blind the last couple of years. I also have found out that they roam around in as much as a 50 mile radius so they are not so easy to see.

Deerhunter, what ya jumpin on me for? I just posted a color version of what Skip posted. Never said it was real or anything. I got ton's of saved photo's from the internet. This one has been around for some time. It shows up every year around this time. Of all the questionable photo's I've seen, this one has held on cause if it is fake, it's a good one. Most agree with the museum theory, mainly because they can't find proof of it being a fake, like shadows, wind, lines, etc.. Kutter

Fellas, I apparently got the scoop on the picture now. Our local newspaper the Mc Crory monitor has claimed it came from batesville. Has the exact same picture on the front page of the paper. But has no story with it. |

OK, It's a Black tail deer and they only are found in California and Oregon as far as I know. A little study of that color pic with friends brought that to light.

The Iowa DNR web site even discusses this picture b/c of all the rumors about cougars and reported sightings here in Iowa. They state it is from out west b/c of the deer having a black tail, making it a black tail or muley. Appears that picture has definetely made the rounds though to half the U.S.! That's one well traveled cougar... |

The idea that it was taken in a musuem of a display is ridiculous to me. Notice the stick brushing along the Cougars side by his hind leg as he creeps by, a musuem wouldn't have placed that there. Notice the depth of the forest, the musuem isn't going to have that many fake trees going that deep, looks 40-50 yards back for a display. They always have some type of painted background or something. Why would they put a tree right in front of the deer and if they have a cougar stalking a buck to kill it, don't you think the musuem would've used a buck with a bigger rack just for the theatrical part of it, not a little 4 pointer. People are gonna be a lot more interested and amused if its a big buck with a huge rack rather than a very small buck. Plus the background is just too real, bushes and brush everywhere, sticks and branches scattered about, musuems don't put that much effort into minor details. I just thought it was ridiculous for someone to say it could be a setup in a musuem! Yea I know the buck doesn't have its tail up and you'd think it would if it had a cougar 2 feets from its butt but hey the cougar is an animal of a stealthy attack, its not like a cougar can't sneak up on a deer without it knowing and kill it. Thats how they survive is it not, stalking their prey and killing it. |
