lol jim, every august the latter part , we get all the old corn out of the grain bins and load up the feed trucks with it. it usually enough to pave a 1/4 mile dirt road through the woods with corn. just about 4 inches thick which isnt state road spec. lol. but before i get toasted. baiting deer is legal in nc. i dont ever bait a setup i have because easy food makes deer go completely nocturnal alot of times. i do bait that dirt path as a thin out zone. its a good place to just sit in the truck when you have 20 minutes before dusk, letting the younger kids on the farm shoot some deer, friends that want quick meat, or the old folks. have a few seniors that can barely walk but will still shoot a deer. anything to thin these doe out, its nothing to see 15-20 at the time. If it aint a Stelling it aint loud enough.

In my opinion you should leave it all up the law. You should contact game wardens and game management for the baiting/no license part and contact the probation board for the firearm and maybe between those departments someone will get him. I would not make any attempts to harrass him or try to interfere with him in anyway.. its not worth it... deer humting is not worth putting yourself or other family in danger.. ya know? Whats strange is that around here they bust people all the time who have put out just little feeders or one or two small piles.. and your guy has all this corn out and hasnt been busted? The game wardens might be waiting until season opens so they can actually catch him hunting over it too and can have more charges to add. Anyway.... accept the fact this season is ruined.. or just take a camera and use this season to observe and scout until all the corn is gone... filming over corn isnt a crime is it? The way I understand it you can feed deer corn.. you just cant hunt over that corn. Good luck....Sam

The way i look at it ususally they get whats coming to them sooner or later. Most the time its later just let it take its course. Its not worth you stooping to that level. We had a couple of guys using a telephone down this way. They did it for a couple of years it hurt that part of the river pretty bad but when they got caught they lost there license permanenly. Now they lost there chance to fish ever again. As for the game warden theres only one to a county thats alot of ground to cover. They usually pretty busy just way to understaffed. Round here they bring in a couple of federal guys because of the refuges and the duck hunting. If the federal warden ya'll got knows bout it, I bet the county warden does too, they will have to catch him hunting it to make it stick. Otherwise he will just say he was feeding the deer. As for the felony, all it takes is a law enforcement offical(cop)to stop him they will confiscate his gun. |

Thats a sticky situation your in. I agree with most others to anomnously turn him in.You don't want to cause more or any trouble coming back to you and your family. Maybe you could get other friend or hunters to call it in also. Post a letter about him in local sports stores or an ad in the paper about it complete with his name and the area he's doing this in. however you chosse to act on this I hope it all works out for you.I know how difficult it is with family situations,is like walking on eggs.We are all pullin for ya though and think your doing the right thing. SHUT UP AND FISH

Season opens here on the 9th. he has seen the bait and we are going to show up like we would normaly and then play the rest by ear. But he said any deer I shoot there he will make sure it is a clean and leagle kill. We did get a Bobcat bucket loader and clean up a area to hunt, so I am covered where my stands are.
