Since some of you know I've moved to NC & we live on her parent's 88 acera property & her brother have harvested a good amount of deer off this land (filled state's deer limit) With their permission to hunt, I've scouted through the area for deer's activities routine, bedding & feeding. Have been watching a small body 8 pointer for 3 days in a row now. Unfortuantely I've left my Mathews in Ohio & am expecting to get it next Monday. Bought portable stand today to set it up tomorrow afternoon. Wish me luck. Question- am I still required to have hunting license & deer permit to hunt on private family owned property that I'm also still one of family member? From what I know in Ohio, for a family member that hunt on their own property does not need one. Next question- Is it illegal or legal to use a bow during muzzleload/gun season in NC? Regulation I checked for NC bow runs from Sept 11- Nov 12, muzzle- Nov 13-19 & gun-Nov 22-Dec 18. As much I would prefer to with my bow during smokey barrel season because the full swing rut usually start in 2nd week of Nov. thats where most gunners during those period will have more advantage with trophies roaming around. I hope I'm not adbandoning the law to arrow one in slug season. I even used an arrows in gun season up in Ohio. Lord do I miss Ohio's monsters! No comment on NC's lol. Happy hunting & be safe. While I'm not familiar with your local laws, I will tell you how your situation would work in Mississippi. If you are a land owner and YOUR name is on the title to the land, you would not be required to have a license to hunt that land. Also, you may hunt with bow and arrow during any open season on deer. You would have to conform to the bag limits or other specifics of the current season but you could hunt with the bow all year. I would call the Department of Wildlife and be sure before venturing out. If possible, get them to give or show you the laws concerning your questions in writing. Good luck!

In Illinois you must have a land owner permit to hunt...... Is a lot of variation between states so sounds like it would be wise to check the laws there

I know you can hunt with a bow durring rifile season in NC but you must have on your hunting vest. I was there for over eight years. As far as fas the land and the license gose I heard that had changed. Back when I was there if you were related to the owner and lived on the land you did not have to have a license but like I said I heard that had changed.
Anything I can for the Brotherhood and the family members Thank you, Jim "Gator" Hudson
