Paul, very nice whitetail. Did it score enough for pope and young? What doesn't kill you, just makes you stronger. Hotsprings, North Carolina

I would guess that buck in the 140's and it only takes 125 to make P&Y. The question might be did he bother to enter it in the book. That is a verry nice deer Paul congrads to you! "Youth is wasted on the young" Greek philosopher Socrates LAKE LIVINGSTON, TEXAS

Eston, That's about what I thought It would score. I would enter one if I ever killed one big enough. What doesn't kill you, just makes you stronger. Hotsprings, North Carolina

Thanks all. Actually he scored at 166 3/8 no I did register him in the books. I have hunted a bow since 1965. I started with recurve bow we did know what a compound bow was then. In 1979 I went wheelie shot numerous animals until 10 years ago then I went back to recurve bow and selfbows here , to me the sport became lacking something and the thrill of the kill was gone with modern tech, you guys may hunt with it if you want to but for me I like the challenge. The challenge of my choice was to get rid of my compounds but my tree stands and go back to hunting the way I started to hunt with my Uncles and an Old Navaho friend (while I lived in Southern Utah), who taught me how to make bow and arrows the native way as well the way to hunting on the ground Hey Jason good luck here on the hunt I miss the huntin in Colorado I lived in Rifle for six years while working the oil shell mines before Regan became Pres. And they went belly up. The 80’s were good times there were plenty of animals every where you looked you could see manyand big ones too! when we went through that way two week ago stay up in White River Ntl. Forest for three nights the fire was getting close so we left, I have not heard what were damages from it, we did hear the town of Meeker was preparing to be evacuated on the radio as we headed home. Man that Bites I that was some beautiful country up there and the Landowner damages as well.

until today i used a inexpensive american archery compound 50# with a 31 inch draw, very comfortable and very quiet, today i picked up a pse dominator 60# with overdraw, needed something faster for 3-d shoots, i never hunted with a bow but i plan on getting started, im particularly interested in javelina and feral hogs, |

I shoot a Jenning Carbon Extreme amongst the other various bows that I have. I started out with composite re-curves at the age of 12. I shoot instintive. There is just something about standing up straight and looking through a peep sight that just rubs me the wrong way. Don't get me wrong I have shot using sights in the past and for some reason I just feel more confident not using the sights. Good Luck this season. I don't know if I am going to get to go at all. I really don't have a place to hunt anymore that isn't over run by the public. I started out with an ol whitetail two bout 14 yrs ago and had some success with that ol bow. It took me a lil bit to get used to it, but with alot of practice I finally came around. Four years ago I got into tournament shoots, and had to put it away. Ive shot quite a few since then and last year I picked up a mathews lx and it is the most forgiving and quiet bow I've owned. Which not to say its better it just fits to me. Smooth shooting, and let me tell ya I need all the help I can get. As far as shooting, it just takes alot of practice, I've put arrows in almost everything in my yard and even one in a chair on my neighbors porch when my release slipped off. Ya'll be careful out there. Oh and bag a biggun for us. My jerky bowls still empty. |

I started with a $5. yard sale bow in 63. The Archery dealer nearby was a Fred Bear collector and grabbed it out of my hand as I came up to the counter. It's on his wall today still. He Gave me a Re-curve for it and I bought the arrows. He showed me hot to shoot instinct out behind his shed. I bought 12 more arrow's. I went on to hunt till 97 or so. Finally the Frozen shoulders got to me. My Son got rid of all my Archery stuff years ago. It was left handed stuff. No good to him. Archery is a great sport for a lot of reasons. You'll never be bored if you own some Archery equipment. |
