Just wanted to say how excited I was that I got my first deer this year. This has been my first year hunting, really hunting unless you count 2 days last year. I have been able to be out during bow season, and have been out as much as I could be, my girlfriends mother got me a crossbow this year and have really enjoyed being able to try and use it. I have seen alot of deer just none close enough to take a safe and clean kill shot at. Well last Monday was the begining of shotgun season here in Ohio, I decided to go out Sunday night one last time with the crossbow, with all the rain we have had the previous days the woods where I hunt was really flooded, well as I walked into the area i was hunting six deer decided to wave their white tails at me. The next day I took the shotgun out after work and didnt see a thing....my luck(as usual). Tuesday night after work I went straight to the woods, I broke the edge of the woods at 4:00 walked about 20 yards and two deer waved goodbye to me. I decided to take a knee thinking maybe they just might stop, slow down, anything...well I head a noise to my right and to my suprise this buck was walking towards me ( why he didnt run when the other 2 took off I dont know) he was only about 30yds away. He got close enough to me, looked at me up and down, snorted, stomped, and i just knelt there as still as I could. The whole time wondering how am I gonna get my gun up and turn without spooking him. He actually turned and broke for about 10 yds then stopped and came back in, this time more to my front, still wondering how can I shoulder my shotgun and not spook him, as he was walking to my left, he kept looking and snorting at me, I figured he would take off again, well he didnt, there was a tree about 3 feet in diameter he walked towards, fortunately for me he went on the backside of it,if not I dont think I would have been able to get him, as soon as his head was behind the tree I shouldered my gun and when he was on the other side of the tree I aimed for the best shot I could get( my glasses were fogging up a little) nerves.....well then BOOOOM, I shot, saw him stagger then run away. I said thanks for allowing me to have a clear shot, picked up my spent shell casing then went over to where I shot him, saw a huge puddle of blood and hair, marked the spot then started tracking him. I lost the track a few times, just went back to where I put some sticks in the ground periodically incase i needed to backtrack, which i need a few times.LOL well I came upon him laying down and well the rest is history......got in the woods at 4:00 and shot him at 4:10, a very lucky and great day for me.....just please remind me next year or if I go during muzzleloading season( my girlfriends mom got me a CVA Optima Pro) shoot one that is already field dressed as this was my first time doing that also

Chris:

A Great Story and I am sure a Great experience for you. You never seem to forget your First Buck even after getting Several that are Bigger and maybe tougher to get. I Still remember mine and it was 40 some years ago. I have Killed several more Deer and several Elk and a Big Moose. But I still remember the First Buck like it was last year.
