I am new to deer hunting and would like a place to take my 11 year old son, any ideas where a good place would be to take him? Thanks. |

I hunt on some private land myself in Central Ohio. Harrisburg to be exact. I am not sure if I can get you on but I will try. The lady that owns the land is old and I used to work on her farm growing up. I hunt down in Jackson alot and used to stay at Canters Cave. It is a 4-H camp that we used to stay at for $30 a day they fed you breakfast, packed you a lunch, and came back to a dinner. You stayed in rooms with 5 bunk beds and could not beat the deal. It has probably been 7 years since I have been down there as that is where Grandpa used to take me before he passed away. I would try and look into that though. Matt Lets go fishin....anytime...anyplace....I will be the man in the orange hat....

Write to the ODNR and ask for a list of places to hunt on private property. There are quite a few. I feel this is usually a little safer due to less people hunting around you. Stan, Lockbourne, OH

i am from licking county. around here we drive through the country, find a place we might like to hunt, and knock on the door. you would be very surprised how many people will let you. especially if u tell them u wanna take your eleven year old. we have been granted permission on many good spots. at todays count, we have around 300 acres of whitetail country we gained using the knock and ask technique. may as well give it a try. the worst they could do is say no. |

thanks all for the info, any help is greatly appreciated. I tried the knock and ask at a local nursey, figured they wouldnt want the deer eating their trees and shrubs, but they said no. I might have to try it again though. Thanks. |

If you are still looking for a place in cenral ohio, chandlersville in muskingum county is an excellent place to go. 3/4 of the farm owners will let you hunt. I know it's not exactly central but it's kinda close to central. |

Hey Josh Davidson, That is an excellent spot I'm pretty sure that is Ohio's Top deer tagged and big bucks taken last year and many years before. I'm from Adams Co. By the way way south...lol |
