I have shot just about every type cal.and guage thay make from 17 cal.to an 8ga muzzle loading cape gun and I can tell you the one gun that kicked the hardest was a single shot 10 ga. goose gun.OUCH I have shot just about all the 12ga slugs and what works best for me is the old type 2 3/4 1 oz WW slugs. One summer I set up a 200 yd range for testing slugs, that summer I shot over 100 times with at all ranges from 20 to 200 yds.a 1 oz slug drops 3 ft. at 200 yds.
The one and only!!! badkarma

My goodness!!! Shoot a goose, lose an arm for a couple of weeks!!! What a trade off! I'd have to be an awful bad shot with a 12 guage to even want to use that thing! Probably has a shot pattern about 4 foot wide at 200 yards. The one you have pictured has a muzzleloader sidelock on it or something very similar to it. I wonder if it was converted or something. |

Madman, you need to leave a few ducks and geese for when I start doing that again. Bad enough that Riverrat wants to shoot a shotgun with horizon to horizon patterns. You want to make it automatic! Bryan |

Rango, I have a rifle I use but I wanted to try this thing out if I got the chance. It was just a thought though. The only loads I've shot through it are turkey loads and it kicked the hell out of me. Bruised the hell out of my shoulder (no recoil pad). It's a modified choke so I guess it'd handle slugs okay. |

Whitewhiskers your skeet bore barrel is perfect for shooting slugs. It's the full and especially extra full choked barrels ya have to worry about shooting slugs threw. Living by the Square and On the Level Jesse

Madman your main problem is going to be that you can't use any shotgun larger than 10 gauge for hunting in the USA. That's federal regulations. You will need a special permit to own that rotory shotgun. The permit is $200 due at time of application of permit. Living by the Square and On the Level Jesse

what a slug barrel is is it has a rifled barrel and rifle sights. maybe it would make it more accurate at longer distances, but you will be fine with a smoothbore barrel with an improved cylinder choke. shane † OZZ †

Alot of places sell "Slug Barrels" that are only a smooth bore with a fixed cylinder choke and rifle sights. So just because it says Slug Barrel, doesn't mean it is riffled. Something to keep in mind when shoping for one. Whitewhiskers, As long as you can find some kind of sights for your gun, you'll be fine shooting rifled slugs. Scope mounts for the 1100 are pretty easy to find. Some wal marts even carry them. And you can even buy rifle sights to put on a vent rib barrel. · Madman ·

Whitwhiskers the only improvement in haveing a slug barrel is that it has rifle sites mounted on the barrel instead of just a bead on your regular barrel. There is a scope mount option. There is a scope mount that attaches to the receiver of your Model 1100 using longer pins through your frame. I am talking about the 2 pins that hold your trigger assembly in place. Just put the scope mount against your receiver and push in the new longer pins and then attach your scope to the mount. When ya want to go back to bird or rabbit hunting just remove scope mount and put old original pins back in. You can get one of these mounts off the internet or most any local gun shop. Madman on your rotory the barrels have to be at longer than 18 inches. I believe that would be more weight that you could tote very far. Check your federal regulations...there is a minimum length on barrels and overal length of shotguns and rifles. When under the minimum lengths they are placed in the same classification as machineguns and other restricted guns. Living by the Square and On the Level Jesse
