Back on mlk day I was invited for a day on the lake with a fellow member. Im relatively new to the area and normally fish by my self so having some one else there was a treat in its self. The member I went with was koda. We had corresponded a few times before the New Year. But I was too busy to make any plans, so when a 4 day weekend came I know I should jump on the opportunity. So the plan was to meet at the marina a 0745ish. So I got to the lake an around 0600 thinking I could find some green sunfish or bluegill. But the bait was not cooperating but it did not ruin the day. So I got done with my cast net and headed for the boat ramp. As a came around the corner I seen a poohntoon boat already in the water that matched the description that koda gave me. So I parked and proceed to dock. Not too sure that I was about to talk to the right couple to shout out, “am I late?" and Ann (his very nice wife) politely replied. "Nope we just got here early" so I interfused my self as I loaded my gear on the catfish oriented pontoon. And we were off. First koda show me around the lake. I was only a little familiar because I have only had my boat on it one time. He must have pointed out all the good spots, coves and under water drop offs. So we fished a few hole with no luck but, I did not mind I was just gracious to be with good people on a beautiful lake on a perfect day. Around noon we headed to one of the campgrounds you can only get to by boat. What a perfect boat, all the amenities. That boat can be at top speed around 22 mph we had a conversation with out having to raise our voices. And we arrived at the campground and unloaded the bbq grill. Ann prepared lunch. Hamburgers and hotdogs. What a wonderful day. After lunch we hit a few more hole and conversated awhile. While deep in conversation Ann’s rod almost got yanked in to the water, she picked it up and there was nothing there. Then we headed back to the dock. I would just like to thank David and his wife ann. again for a beautiful day. I have only been in this area for about 6 months and don’t really know too many people. These kind folks took me in and took me out. Just the invitation along show me that there are descent, real people around here. That trip will be a lasting memory for ever and, hopefully there are many more to come.

Oz31p: Timothy, just wanted to say howdy. I've read your posts before, but this one was a real surprise, when you mentioned Sierra Vista, just had to check your profile. I spent two years at Ft Huachuca myself, 64 to 66. I was with the USACSS (Combat Surveillance School). What outfit are you with? I didn't fish much back then, when we did, we went to Lake Powell, what lake were you on? I don't remember any water being around that would float a canoe much less a Catoon. Oz31p: Timothy, don't remember any signal unit designations from when I was there, but I do remember there was a signal school there, that what you're in? How about USACSS, they still there? Don't remember any lakes by that name, but as I said, we didn't do much fishing then, we'd go to Powell on leave mainly. Catfishfever, Junction City, Kansas Is there life after death? 11th signal has only been at ft. huachuca since 1985. now there are alot of signal schools here but i am not in any of them. patagonia lake was created by damming the sonotia creek in 1967. wow powell is a long drive from here. as far as the USACSS i have no idea, they may be there are a lot of MI schools here.

Oz31p: Timothy, that means they damed it the year after I left, I remember it. Except when I was there, it was mostly dry with a few wet spots every now and then. My son and I would go camping on my dirt bike in the desert and drive down the crick alot. Came across quite a few old mines (gold?) or what ever, found some really neat old equipment, one pistol, all kinds of old equipment, I really enjoyed it there. The younger single guys didn't thing to much of it as the closest place was Nogales. The main street in SV was paved,(I think) but all the streets were still dirt and most of the houses were adobe. Enjoyed meeting and talking with you, thanks for all the info. Have you read the book about Ft Huachuca, I have one, it's pretty interesting. Great story Tim! Fishing even when catching nothing with good people is better than sitting on the coach! I was instantly blessed to have been born in America

Tim, that sounds like it was a good time. Never did any fishing on Patagonia but did a lot of skiing and tubing I was stationed there from 92-94. Loved that place. If I remember right, you go out the back gate, go until the road Tees and take a left. Aways down it curves to the left and on the right is small lake there. I did fish there a few times. That is a neat old Fort. A lot to do. We got a map of old mines, a number of them on the Fort, and explored a lot of them. Found some Turquoise and silver. Up to the mountain was always fun too. tried panning gold out of the creek. And then there is Coronado. Them back mountain roads are a blast. Spent a lot of time up in Tuscon and a few three day weekends at the Grand Canyon. Tombstone and Bisbee are neat places as well. AndI will never forget the nights in Nogales, except for the ones erased by amnesia Word of caution...No four-wheelin the mountain roads on the Fort after dark...the M.P.'s don't like that. They thought I was from south of the border smugglin up some stuff. There went several hours of answering questions. Later, LazyDaz "It's not what you use, It's where you use it!"
